What is explosion-proof (Exproof) lighting?

Explosion-proof lighting uses luminaires designed not to create sparks or high surface temperatures in areas where flammable gas, vapour or dust may be present. Using a standard luminaire in these areas poses a serious safety risk.

Zone classification

Explosive atmospheres are classified as Zone 0/1/2 for gas and Zone 20/21/22 for dust. Luminaire selection is based on this zone, the gas group and the temperature class. You'll need to share the zone information from your facility's explosion-protection document so we can identify the right product.

Certification and compliance

ATEX / IECEx-type certification is mandatory for explosion-proof lighting. At the quote stage we clarify exactly which certificates and markings your project requires, and recommend a product that meets them.

Why work with Asso?

We plan both the explosion-risk and standard areas of your facility in one project; for outdoor areas and roads, our own FOKUS and AQUA series lower the total cost. Send us your explosion-proof lighting need along with the zone information and we'll prepare a quote.
